Throughout 2001 a team of academics has explored the ways in which academics across disciplines at the University perceive the link between teaching and research ie how teaching informs their research and how their research informs their teaching.

As well we have investigated the impact of the link on student learning and the research experiences of both students and lecturers.

The findings indicate that the link between research and teaching is perceived as a crucial component of the role of universities.

A strong link promotes teaching and learning as a process of inquiry where lecturers and students work in partnership in the construction and dissemination of new knowledge and understanding and its application to real life situations.
