Associate Professor Gordon Waitt in Human Geography asserts:
I think the link
is really important in terms of educating students, as it provides a
mechanism, not only for the top performing students but for all students
to be actively engaging in research activities. Both teaching and research
are learning activities. However, in terms of many academics thinking
about their responsibilities, some have separated out their teaching
from their research responsibilities over the last 10 years, instead
of thinking about both as a learning activity.
In terms of exploiting the link I think it is really important to be
designing subjects and thinking carefully about the course context as
the link itself wont magically materialise without the educator
actively thinking about the course design and subject content.
