Install Quicktime
To use eduStream at home, you will need to install
a program called QuickTime. This is a free utility
which can be downloaded from the Internet.
Many computers have QuickTime installed already.
If it is version 5 or higher, you may not need to
reinstall.
However, you should install QuickTime if it isn't
on your computer, if it is an old version, or if
you have tried to use eduStream and found it isn't
working on your computer.
To install QuickTime:
1 Download the QuickTime file
- connect to the Internet, and click on the 'Get
QuickTime' button above. This will take you to
the Apple web site page http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
- a download page will come up. Fill in the form
on this page:
- choose your operating system. (If you don't
know your operating system, reboot your computer
and watch the display as your computer powers
up)
- choose your language, eg English
- if you want to receive email from Apple,
choose your signup options. If you don't want
emails from Apple, uncheck all signup options
- you can either fill in your email, name
and country, or leave those fields blank
- click 'Download'
- PC users - choose 'Save to disk' and specify
a directory where the file can be saved (this
can be any directory on your hard drive)
- the QuickTime installer will be downloaded from
the Internet to your computer. This may take a
while, especially if you are using a modem.
2 Run the QuickTime installer
- close all open programs before you begin
- PC users - use Windows Explorer to find the
file you downloaded
- Macintosh users - use the Finder to find the
file you downloaded
- All users - double click the file and follow
the instructions on the screen.
Once QuickTime is installed, it will automatically
be used by your computer to play eduStream lectures.
You will not have to open or launch QuickTime.
